Tailored Gires-Tournois etalons as tunable dispersion slope compensators.
We present a novel concept of a tailored Gires-Tournois etalon structure and show that such a device is useful for the fabrication of a dispersion-slope compensator with an almost arbitrary dispersion profile and also with tunability in the dispersion slope.

We report on novel three-dimensional tunable Fabry-Perot etalons fabricated by surface micromachining technique. The Fabry-Perot etalons are tuned by rotation or translation movements. For the Fabry-Perot etalon tuned by rotational movement, the Fabry-Perot etalon is integrated with a rotational stage and the effective light path distance is adjusted by rotating the stage. The transmission peak...
متن کاملGeneration of WDM adaptive-rate pulse bursts by cascading narrow/wideband tunable optical dispersion compensators.
We demonstrate passive generation of optical pulse trains with each pulse having distinct center carrier and spectra using tunable group delay (GD) staircase transfer functions. The GD steps result from opposite and equal magnitude GD slopes from narrowband and wideband tunable optical dispersion compensators. We use this technique to split the spectrum of a femtosecond pulse to a pulse burst w...
متن کاملPolarization mode dispersion compensation of chirped Bragg gratings used as chromatic dispersion compensators
Compensation of Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD) induced by a chirped Bragg grating is performed using a short length of highly birefringent fiber. A recirculating loop experiment demonstrates complete PMD compensation of the chirped Bragg grating. This simple method can be extended to deterministic PMD compensation of any components. Introduction: Pulse broadening induced by PMD is now an im...
متن کاملColor-Tunable Etalons Assembled from Poly (N-Isopropylacrylamide) Based Microgels
Photonic materials (PMs) that are capable of manipulating and controlling light in systems have immense potential for the computing and communications industries. These materials are formed by assembling components of differing refractive indices in a periodic array. Light then interacts with this assembly, which results in constructive and destructive interference, and hence color. While many ...
